Composite Fillings

Composite Fillings

Composite (tooth-colored) fillings that are metal free and are used to repair teeth affected by decay, cracks, chips, or wear. After removing the damaged portion, the dentist fills the space with a durable, tooth-colored resin that blends naturally with surrounding teeth—making it ideal for visible areas.

Common reasons for composite fillings:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth

  • Tooth decay

  • Worn teeth

  • Gaps between teeth

Procedure:

The filling is usually completed in one visit. The area is numbed, cleaned, and prepared. If the decay is near the nerve, a protective medication may be used. The composite material is then placed, shaped, and polished to restore function and appearance.

While some sensitivity to hot or cold is normal initially, it typically fades quickly. Composite fillings are durable but not permanent, so good oral care and regular dental visits help extend their lifespan.
