Cephalometric X-rays are specialized, extraoral radiographic images that capture the side profile of the face, including the teeth, jawbone, and soft tissues. Unlike bitewing X-rays, they also show the nasal and sinus passages. These X-rays are taken using a panoramic machine with a special arm and film holder, exposing patients to less radiation compared to traditional full-mouth sets.

Procedure

The process is quick and painless. The head is positioned between two mechanical arms, and the machine rotates to capture a clear image. Images may be magnified up to 30%, helping identify even small signs of decay or structural issues.
